HELLO! AGAIN: HOW A MINI TUNNEL CARWASH BECAME A NEIGHBORHOOD STAPLE

In 2021, owner and CEO of Hello! Carwash, Frank Nucherino, set his sights on a less than ½ acre carwash in Denver, CO. Hello was in growth mode continuing their expansion in Texas and looking to break into the Denver market. While many other carwash developers baulked at the small site, Frank saw an opportunity to differentiate by offering exceptional carwash service with a local feel.

“This opportunity comes just once in a lifetime!”

Located at 2975 North Iola Street in the Stapleton Neighborhood, the well-known Shiny Happy Car Wash, originally designed by Hover Architecture’s founder, Troy Kirchman, in 2008. The 19,000 square foot site featured a well-designed and well-built high-volume facility with a notable 65’ “Greenhouse in the Garden” concept. Surrounded by new development including multistory high density residential housing, retail, including a new King Soopers, restaurants, automotive uses, retail shopping, and professional services, the site had great bones and almost unlimited potential. Frank didn’t let the opportunity pass him by.

REINVESTING IN THE BUSINESS

Over the years, the carwash had been substantially upgraded with energy efficient systems to hold down utility costs. In 2018, the wash was fully renovated with new technology including an all-new Belanger Express Tunnel System and a new tunnel management system, auto cashier unit, pumping stations, chemical systems, and much more. The wash also included a fully functional and operating water reclamation system to substantially reduce the freshwater volume consumption. Even with these upgrades and the care that had been taken over the years, it was time for a facelift. Between the chemicals, moisture, grease and grime, carwashing takes a toll on a building over 15 years. So in the Spring of 2024, Frank reached out to Hover for a much needed building refresh.

When it comes to renovations, having an experienced contractor is essential. You want someone who can thoughtfully evaluate existing conditions and provide informed guidance on what to repair vs replace.

Project Architect, Hover Architecture

Aslan Corporation, a general contractor specializing in carwashes, was involved from day one to collaborate with Hover Architecture and develop a clear roadmap for the remodel. Together, the team set out to enhance both the form and function of the facility. Key improvements included updating the building’s exterior envelope with Euro Stone to give it a fresh, modern appearance, and incorporating more of Hello Carwash’s signature branding through new signage and vinyl wraps. A deteriorating polycarbonate roof was replaced with a durable metal alternative, while the vacuum lot was reconfigured to improve site circulation and enhance the overall customer experience. The remodel also included the replacement of aging carwashing and vacuum equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Importantly, the team preserved the established landscaping while introducing additional greenery to further elevate the curb appeal and create a more welcoming environment.

REINVESTING IN THE COMMUNITY

Since the site was purchased, Hello Carwash has evolved from a local express tunnel wash into a cherished part of the Denver community, thanks to its unwavering commitment to giving back and fostering meaningful connections. Beyond providing top-tier car care, Hello Carwash has consistently demonstrated its dedication to social impact through various charitable initiatives and community partnerships.

At Hello Carwash, the facility itself is more than just a place to clean your car, it’s a reflection of the team’s ongoing care for the community it serves. Every design decision, from the layout of the vacuum lot to the welcoming signage, is made with the customer and neighborhood in mind. The recent remodel wasn’t just about updating equipment or refreshing the building’s look, it was a tangible way of showing appreciation for the people who have supported the business over the years.

By investing in higher-efficiency systems, a more intuitive site flow, and durable, sustainable materials, Hello Carwash is demonstrating that they’re here for the long haul and not just to serve, but to give back. Whether through community fundraising programs, local hiring, or partnerships with area nonprofits, their mission extends well beyond car care.

In many ways, Hello Carwash proves that you don’t need a massive footprint to make a lasting impact. With the right design, a strong local focus, and a deep sense of purpose, even a small site can deliver big results for business, people, and the place they all call home.
